Fiskars in Name Only Cheap and Cheesy April 9, 2010 Michael (Evanston, Israel) I had this spade for about a month and used it in light to moderate duty yard work. It bent right in half at the top of the spade while digging a bed. Avoid at all costs, getyourself something better for 1/2 the price.
Great shovel March 24, 2009 Justin Van Winkle (College Park, MD USA) I got this shovel at Lowes because it was the best spade they had in stock. I've been using it for almost a year, and it is nearly indestructible. The last week or so I've been double digging new garden beds in my sand-clay backyard (as hard as concrete after a week of no rain), and it has been a comparative breeze. I've resharpened the shovel once to get through the large pine roots and stumps, and the plastic handle needs re-tightening about every 3 hours of digging (it is held on by a single screw, I'll probably give it a drop of super glue to lock the threads as it is wiggling loose). I am able to push this shovel all the way into the ground, and then jump up and down on the handle with all of my weight without it showing any signs of stress whatsoever (the handle of the fork I was using snapped in 2 with much much less force).
I highly recommend this for gardening. My only reservation is that for another $20-$30 you could move up to something made of stainless steel.
Broke right in half November 24, 2008 J. rosengren (ventura, ca) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had this item a little under a year, stored it in the garage. It has gotten a lot of use and I really liked it until it the spade portion broke right in half while spading up some grass. I went back to where I bought it and they said they could do nothing and deal directly with the manufacturing. They said they received my request for help but have not contacted me and now it is over a week later.
Fiskars Garden Spade June 28, 2007 Caroline Gillespie 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This product is designed for men to use. It is a pitty they do not make a lighter, smaller version for women. I have found it sturdy but too heavy and cumbersome to use for long periods of time. It always amazes me how little manufacturers think of women when they design products and in the case of gardening tools, women are often active users of such tools so the oversight is all the more egregious.
finest garden spade on the market May 15, 2007 M. Swaim (NC United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was skeptical of the square point until I bought this. Now, I'm a total convert to this very robust version of a classic British gardening spade. It's the finest piece of gardening gear that I own (in a well stocked shed full of implements). Highly recommended, and darn near unbreakable.
